A western Indian state has declared war on animal poaching by sanctioning its forest guards to shoot hunters on sight in an effort to curb rampant attacks against tigers, elephants and other wildlife.

The government in Maharashtra says injuring or killing suspected poachers will no longer be considered a crime.

According to the Wildlife Protection Society of India, 14 tigers have been killed by poachers in India so far this year — one more than for all of 2011. I just read all the synopses and I’m actually amazed at how well I seemed to follow it. GOD I LOVED ALL THE ANIMATION SHIFTS i love animation

FLCL is about the optional aspect of growing up.

Puberty is a chemical reaction that you can’t control, but becoming a man is something that is all in your own head, and not a thing everyone pulls off.

The guy with the eyebrows and to a degree the father are examples of becoming an adult incorrectly. The brother is an example of someone who became a real adult and is now no longer apart of this kid’s world. The bat is a metaphor for the penis. And the brother left to go play professional baseball in America. He’s a man now.

The town is symbolic of childhood. The iron is that unsettling feeling that you get around puberty, that this horrible looming thing is going to happen, that your childhood, your world, is going to be erased completely. Smoothing out the wrinkles in your brain so you’re not who you are anymore.

Haruko is a metaphor for puberty itself, she’s like, the puberty fairy. Puberty itself can give you crazy wild ideas and like him being in love with Haruko is just sorta symbolic of him being crazy because of his hormones. She may also be like representative of the first hot chick you see when your dick works for the first time who just like monopolizes your brain.

Okay think about how the bat symbolizes the penis, think about how she pulls the guitar out of his brain and says it’s his bat. The meteor scene was symbolic of his first masturbatory orgasm. God like the pacing and energy of that scene was exactly like an orgasm. And afterwards he’s laying in Haruko’s scooter and says “My hand is still sore. I wonder if Haruko feels like this all the time.”

Also the dad’s creepy death thing is sorta symbolic for how you can see your parent or elders as sexual competition and it sorta kills who they used to be.

Also Kanti is symbolic of your new-found cool teenager body and TEEN STRENGTH that you can summon in times of need. Mamimi is also like an example of someone who doesn’t really know how to grow up. She’s kinda stuck in this limbo because she never really dealt with her feelings for Naota’s brother. I think she might also be a virgin and she just really needs to get fucked.

But man.

The best character.

In the ENTIRE FUCKING SHOW.

And one of my all time favorite characters, ever.

Is ninamori.

I didn’t even NOTICE her the first time I watched it. Or like, how important she was.

Ninamori reminds me a lot of like Suzie from Calvin and Hobbes. She’s basically the same age and going through the same things as Naota but she’s a little smarter about it because girls mature faster. But Naota and Ninamori are going through the same thing, he just barely notices because he’s so focused on his own stuff, but she clearly notices things are happening to him.

Also, man, like, REALLY, the core theme of FLCL, is that you don’t become an adult until you force yourself to act like one.

“Sour drinks” are a metaphor for anything that kids don’t inherently like, any acquired taste, any behavior you have to learn to become more of an adult and isn’t just handed to you on a silver platter by puberty.

And like, wearing fake glasses, fake eyebrows, etc, are all symbolic of pretending to be more adult. The best line in the entire show:

“You’re Puss in Boots, the one who tricks the prince. He hides who he really is and pretends to be someone else forever. So in time he becomes that person, so his lie becomes the truth, see? He transcends the mask. Well, don’t you get it? That’s how he finds happiness. That’s pretty good, right?”

God. I just love FLCL so much.

Also the logical non-metaphorical world behind the show is that Haruko is an alien and she came to Earth to destroy it in order to find her boyfriend and her reality altering powers make everything a metaphorical illusion to Naota. But that’s less interesting than the underlying reality that it’s about a kid jerking off for the first time.

(Also after watching FLCL it’s really clear that Scott Pilgrim’s anime magical realism style is inspired by it, right?)
